Learning God

Armor of God Statue

Ephesians 6:10-18

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

What it Means

We are in a spiritual warfare everyday.  Our true enemies are the powers of darkness, Satan, his demons and fallen angels.  They influence our lives constantly, sometimes with external attacks, sometimes by planting thoughts in our minds that we might take for our own, if we do not protect ourselves.

The “Armor of God” starts with the Helmet of Salvation.  Once we are saved, Christ resides in us and that helps us have the Breastplate of Righteousness. The Holy Spirit helps us to learn what righteousness actually is.

Next is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.  Reading the Bible daily gives us the strong foundation we need.  It also build the Shield of Faith, as “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” (Rom 10:17).

By reading the word and being in prayer, we are able to discern right from wrong.  This gives us the Belt of Truth.  Finally, our Feet are Prepared with the Gospel of Peace when we ready the word and pray to God regularly.  We learn what the Gospel really means and are able to share it with others.

Daily Prayer to Put on the Armor of God

“Heavenly Father, according to your Word, I present myself to you as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You.

I pray You will forgive my sins and fill me with Your presence so that You will protect me with the Helmet of Salvation.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, I pray your will lead me to act righteously and help me avoid temptation, covering me with the Breastplate of Righteousness.

Father God, I pray You give me wisdom and revelation into Your Word today, so that I my have the Sword of the Spirit.

I pray Your Word will help build in me an impenetrable Shield of Faith and gird my waist with the Belt of Truth.

Lord God, I give thanks to You today for Your grace and forgiveness.  I pray Your light shines through me so that I share the Gospel of Peace.

Praise be to you Lord God, forever and ever.

Amen”
