3. Pergamos
The Meaning of the Name
The name Pergamos means “City of the Serpent”.
- Per = mixed, objectionable (pervert, perturbation, etc.)
- gamos=marriage (mono(1)gamy, bi(2)gamy, poly(many)gamy, etc.)
Jesus' Chosen Title
“12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges; (Rev 2:12)
“Two-edged Sword” (Heb 4:12; cf. Rev 1). The “Right of the Sword”; the highest official authority; the power of life and death.
