The Promise to the Overcomer
“26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. 28 And I will give him the morning star.” (Rev 2:26-28)
He the Has an Ear, Hear What the Spirit Says to the Churches
This is the first case where the placement of this statement is after the Promise to the Overcomer. There is a deliberate change in the order of the structure. You will find that in this and the following three letters the order is reversed from the first three letters.
A possibility for this difference is that the first 3 churches are no longer around today and the last four are. Just something to consider!
Was Jezebel’s goal to have “power over nations”?
“Rod of Iron” is found in Ps 2:7-9; Ps 110:2. “Rod” = scepter (Heb 1:8).
“Morning star” = before sunrise (Rev 22:16; also 2 Pet 1:19; cf. Num 24:17, Star of Jacob (Balaam) ).
